Dining out is always a precarious situation. However, I’ve been goin to this restaurant for as long as I can remember. The food is usually good, the prices are amazingly low but the service can be tough.
The restaurant is owned and operated by a single proprietor who does all the cooking and serving. Her mood is often unpredictable and quickly veers from polite to pushy & rude. She will often interrogate you about your personal life, well beyond polite conversation.
Service can be hit or miss, expect to bus your own tables. Sometimes, I even have to go into the kitchen to retrieve my own flatware and napkins. This place is crazy. Worst of all, she often asks her patrons to dump her garbage upon leaving the establishment. This must be some sort of health code violation?
The food is good and you can’t beat the prices. Try the boneless spareribs with sauerkraut and little potatoes. Salads are available intermittently on the menu but the server will often try and cajole you into eating more vegetables than you want you. There are not too many dessert options available other than cookies. She will often be eating them as she offers them to you.
Lately, the cook has taken to adding new variations on some of her old stand by menu items. The menu has not changed but the recipe and ingredients have and not always for the best.
Whatever you do, don’t ever go here for breakfast as you will find the cook fast asleep, often well into the lunch hour. Last time I was there, she actually got me to cook her eggs?
